One of the amazing things about the film footage of Novem from 1973 is the fact that they tell us why they wrote their songs. Knowing the inspiration for the songwriter makes their music that much more powerful.

The inspiration for Too Bad came after Peter found out that Alan was sleeping with his girlfriend. He wrote the song after he had “calmed down” and turned his anger away from Alan ( they apparently remained friends) and toward his former girlfriend. The raunchy sound and straight forward lyrics capture the “I’m mad stage” of a still painful breach of trust.

“It’s kinda cool we got it on with the same chick, in the same room, just at different times!” -Peter

You know I've got it bad for you
You know I've got it bad for you
Too bad you don't feel the way that I do
Too bad you don't believe in me and you
Too bad for me, but too good for you

I don't need your love anyway
I don't need your love anyway
I don't need your love anyway
I just want to hear you say,
"Thank God you're alive today."

Don't come over here with your hateful "love."
Don't come over here with your untrue "love."
I'm through bein' so tied up in you
Your honesty is so far from the truth
I hope you find someone who's as "honest" as you.

I don't need your love anyway
I don't need your love anyway
I don't need your love anyway
I just want to hear you say,
"Thank God you're alive today."
