One of the amazing things about the film footage of Novem from 1973 is the fact that they tell us why they wrote their songs. Knowing the inspiration for the songwriter makes their music that much more powerful.

Mark poured his heart and soul into So Long Love, Goodbye Friend. The melancholy song was inspired by a girl he knew in high school who got fed up with the world and killed herself. Mark says the song is about losing someone and hoping that they are going to a better place.

“It’s about sending someone off, knowing they’re going to a better place.” -Mark

She wakes up, no more dreamin', dreadin' one more day
Takes her time, sippin' coffee, a million miles away
There's got to something to make her want to stay

Headin' out, lookin' for sunshine, something to light her way
Lookin' for something to make her wanna to stay
To make her wanna to stay

But I should have heard her call
To help her make it better
To help her make it good
But I missed the signs
Read between the lines

Wakin' up, no more dreamin', dreadin' one more day
I could've done somethin' to make her wanna to stay
To make her wanna to stay
To make her wanna to stay

So long love, goodbye friend
So long love, goodbye friend
So long love, goodbye friend
